Tips for Newly Diagnosed Diabetics

If you’ve recently been diagnosed with diabetes, I know what you’re feeling. You are overwhelmed with new information, the thought of a new way of life, and maybe afraid of all the unknowns moving forward. Let me tell you something… It’s going to be okay; you are going to be okay!

Tips for people newly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes

I remember all the emotions I went through when I was first diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. The denial, the anger, the fear… all of which are valid. Though being on the other side now, I wish I could have told myself a few things to help me get through it all.

  1. Life isn’t over. You can still be you, do you, and accomplish every goal that you had before diagnosis. Diabetes doesn’t have to define you or stop you from living life.
  2. It’s OKAY to not feel okay; to be fearful, overwhelmed and angry. These are all normal emotions when going through something so life changing. Feel them, but don’t live them.
  3. Find a support system. Don’t do this alone. Family, friends… the online diabetic community is huge and extremely supportive. Find people you can talk to and that will encourage you through this journey.

One thing I struggled with in the beginning was all the new “supplies” I now had to carry with me WHEREVER I went. It was so hard to find a bag that fit everything properly (and one that wasn’t ugly and boring)!

When I found Sugar Medical, their products made a HUGE difference in dealing with my new diagnosis. I felt organized, which helped a great deal in managing my blood sugar, but I also loved that I could still have a stylish bag that helped me feel more “normal”.

Remember, this isn’t the end, it’s only a new chapter. You’ve got this!
